Advice on Cosmetic Plastic Surgery photo viewing

..I think its safer to take a very good look before any procedures…

Your plastic surgeon’s before-and-after photos can reveal much about both your surgeon’s ability as well as information about the procedure you are about to undergo. Most often, it is these plastic surgery photo viewing that will help you decide whether or not you want the procedure.

Always Ask for Photos

It’s always advisable to know much about the procedure before you undergo one. A plastic surgery photo viewing session is one of the best ways for you to get a glimpse of a surgeon’s sense of professionalism and skills and how you might just look like after surgery.

Have a look at several plastic surgery photos. Ask your surgeon to present a gallery and explain to you which plastic surgery photo is most likely reflective of your condition and goals. You might also want to log on to websites and scour the net for numerous other photos. This will help you compare your surgeon’s work with that of others.

Assess Photo Quality

Good plastic surgeons will always have more than one set of photos to show. Badly done photographs may be a sign that you may not have a very dedicated and meticulous surgeon. Make sure that you are viewing a high resolution plastic surgery photo gallery. Pictures however that appear too perfect are something to be wary of. Cosmetic plastic surgery cannot produce perfect results and you should be on your guard if all the pictures present fabulous looking models.

Look for Signs of Editing and Manipulation

Ethics would require a surgeon to keep the patient’s identity a secret. None of the surgical details are masked. It is still a good idea however to have a discriminating eye. You might end up in the hands of the rare surgeon con artist who might resort to plastic surgery photo editing.

Check for inconsistencies in photo lighting and angles. Before photo editing software was invented, clever photographers used lighting and angles to change the look of the same object. Some surgeons may not have intentionally employed such a practice. Real lighting difficulties may truly have resulted in a picture that looks better than the actual result. Simply ask your doctor about what you see if you notice differences in lighting or angle in before and after pictures.

Do Not Rely On Pictures

Plastic surgery photo galleries are just aides to help you visualize the results of a procedure but they should never be made the sole basis for your decision. You might be able to make a more informed decision if you requested for a computer assisted display of what you would look like after the procedure. You should also consider looking for real people you know such as friends and family and assess for yourself how much they have improved in their appearance.

Your doctor’s skill, accreditation and certification should also be a factor in deciding. Researching about a doctor’s qualifications is the best way to ensure safety.

What Is Korea's Plastic Surgery Market Worth?

I think Plastic Surgery is turning into a big financial involvement....

While there can be little doubt that Korea's plastic surgery market is booming, it is difficult to get a handle on the exact size of the market. One reason is that most aesthetic surgery is not covered by health insurance and thus not included in official Health Ministry statistics. And many plastic surgeons massage their sales to dodge taxes, making it difficult to trust statistics provided by the National Tax Service (NTS).

Acording to the NTS, 1,231 beauty clinics earned nearly W447.6 billion (US$1=W1,179) in 2008, but an NTS official says, "Many individual clinics don't fully reveal their sales. The volume of the plastic surgery market probably far exceeds W450 billion given that big hospitals also do plastic surgery."

Experts say the volume of the domestic plastic surgery market is at least W1 trillion. According to the Korean Association of Plastic Surgeons, there were 1,611 plastic surgeons in Korea as of September. A veteran plastic surgeon who operates in the affluent southern Seoul district of Gangnam says, "Some doctors go bankrupt while some earn more than W200 million a month. But those are the exceptions. Most plastic surgeons earn a monthly average of W50 million."

Thus total annual sales of the 1,611 plastic surgeons amount to up to W960 million -- W500-600 million per head. Assuming that doctors without plastic surgery licenses also conduct operations, the market volume is more likely to be over W1 trillion.

The Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service says there are no accurate nationwide statistics about the number of non-plastic surgeons and the amount of money they earn through plastic surgery. Insiders say up to 4,000 non-plastic surgeons nationwide dabble in the field.

90% of Korean Women Would Have Plastic Surgery, Poll Shows

90%...... thats like majority guys...lol

A straw poll suggests that nearly 90 percent of Korean women would have plastic surgery to feel better about themselves. The Chosun Ilbo asked 232 women in their 20s and 30s who visited the website of matchmaking specialist Duo during Sep. 8 to 17 whether they had ever thought about getting plastic surgery. Some 86.6 percent answered yes. When asked whether they would get plastic surgery if it could help them get over anxiety about their looks or if they had the money, almost all or 98.3 answered yes.

Only one in 50 respondents or 1.7 percent said they did not wish to undergo plastic surgery. None said personality rather than looks is what matters.

Some 58.2 percent or 135 of respondents said they already had plastic surgery. Eyelid surgery was the most popular, followed by nose jobs, liposuctions, face lifts and other kinds. Some 82.2 percent (111) said they had gotten plastic surgery to help them get over anxiety about their looks, while 8.9 percent (12) said they wanted their looks to help them find jobs, while 6.7 percent (9) said they wanted to appeal to the opposite sex.

Compared to a survey Duo did in 2003, more women aspire to look better. Then, only 66.3 percent of r552 women in their 20s and 30s surveyed said they would get plastic surgery, while 20.7 percent said they did not and 13 percent said personality is more important than looks.

The largest and most dependable survey on perceptions about cosmetic surgery in Korea is a 2005 Gallup Korea poll of 1,507 men and women over 20. One in 20 respondents or 5.4 percent of the entire group surveyed said they had cosmetic surgery, and 11.7 percent of female respondents in their 20s and 30s. Out of the 1,426 respondents who did not have plastic surgery, 16.5 percent said they had considered going under the knife. Among female respondents in their 20s and 30s, two out of five or 38.3 percent said they had thought about it.

What is the reason behind what seems to be a five-fold increase in the number of people who said they had plastic surgery in the new survey, or 58.2 percent compared 11.7 percent in the Gallup poll four years ago? Experts cite the passage of time and the difference between Internet surveys and interview surveys.

Dietary Supplements and Cosmetics Surgery

I post here for the benefit of those who wanted to compare dietary with cosmetic surgery.

Dietary supplements and cosmetic surgery are seen as undesirable by many people, is this negative connotation, do not abuse the result of its use, but because, as some people.

Supplements

Dietary supplements are intended to compensate for the food. Food supplements containing vitamins, minerals, herbs and other plants throughout the body. Problems arise when people exceed the recommended dose. The extreme amount of dietary supplements may have side effects that cause serious health problems or even death in some attackers. Even greater problems arise when people are experiencing food supplements with the tip of other drugs, but unfortunately the problem is, with increasing frequency in the sport. There were several accounts of athletes and coaches to introduce performance-enhancing anabolic steroids in nutritional supplements. One of the biggest drug scandal in Olympic history, dietary supplement use buses to hide illegal steroids. Events like these contribute to the perception that dietary supplements are harmful to create.

Cosmetic Surgery

As a dietary supplement, cosmetic surgery is often used as unacceptable. Many are rich and famous plastic surgery to improve their appearance often envied those who cannot afford the surgery. Criminals are using cosmetic surgery to change his appearance to elude authorities. Some believe that cosmetic surgery is the persistent gap between rich and poor, while increasing social problems that exist.

Benefits of supplements and surgery

Despite the abuse of food supplements and cosmetic surgery, both can be used for certain purposes. There are many people who cannot obtain all the necessary nutrients from the food they eat to the examples of people with food allergies, those that digest lactose intolerance or other problems with certain foods. Food supplements can help fill the malnutrition, the people suffered. Dietary supplements can also be used to enhance energy intake of people whose lifestyle prevents them from receiving a balanced diet. It is desirable that people consult a physician before any drastic change in diet.

Today, obesity is a common health problem that can be fatal for some people. It could be the only solution to this health problem. People suffering, physical disfigurement as a result of an accident or fire to get cosmetic surgery to normal life after the incident.

In some situations, the use of nutritional supplements and the practice of cosmetic surgery are not only a good solution, but needed repairs. Therefore, we must consider the use of all dietary supplements and cosmetic surgery as a necessary evil, but judge each case on its merits.

i hope these info helps.

The facts you should know about plastic surgery

For most of us, this is what Plastic Surgery defined as...

Definition

Plastic, cosmetic, and reconstructive surgery refers to a variety of operations performed in order to repair or restore body parts to look normal, or to change a body part to look better. These types of surgery are highly specialized. They are characterized by careful preparation of the patient's skin and tissues, by precise cutting and suturing techniques, and by care taken to minimize scarring. Recent advances in the development of miniaturized instruments, new materials for artificial limbs and body parts, and improved surgical techniques have expanded the range of plastic surgery operations that can be performed.

Description

Plastic surgery

Plastic surgery includes a number of different procedures that usually involve skin. Operations to remove excess fat from the abdomen ("tummy tucks"), dermabrasion to remove acne scars or tattoos, and reshaping the cartilage in children's ears (otoplasty) are common applications of plastic surgery.

Cosmetic surgery

Most cosmetic surgery is done on the face. It is intended either to correct disfigurement or to enhance the patient's features. The most common cosmetic procedure for children is correction of a cleft lip or palate. In adults, the most common procedures are remodeling of the nose (rhinoplasty), removal of baggy skin around the eyelids (blepharoplasty), facelifts (rhytidectomy), or changing the size of the breasts (mammoplasty). Although many people still think of cosmetic surgery as only for women, growing numbers of men are choosing to have facelifts and eyelid surgery, as well as hair transplants and "tummy tucks."

Reconstructive surgery

Reconstructive surgery is often performed on burn and accident victims. It may involve the rebuilding of severely fractured bones, as well as skin grafting. Reconstructive surgery includes such procedures as the reattachment of an amputated finger or toe, or implanting a prosthesis. Prostheses are artificial structures and materials that are used to replace missing limbs or teeth, or arthritic hip and knee joints.

.....why do we even consider plastic surgery?... i guess there are various reasons why....

Although these three types of surgery share some common techniques and approaches, they have somewhat different emphases. Plastic surgery is usually performed to treat birth defects and to remove skin blemishes such as warts, acne scars, or birthmarks. Cosmetic surgery procedures are performed to make persons look younger or enhance their appearance in other ways. Reconstructive surgery is used to reattach body parts severed in combat or accidents, to perform skin grafts after severe burns, or to reconstruct parts of person's body that were missing at birth or removed by surgery. Reconstructive surgery is the oldest form of plastic surgery, having developed out of the need to treat wounded soldiers in wartime.

Demographics

The top 10 most commonly performed elective cosmetic surgeries in the United States include the following:

There were approximately 29 million surgical procedures performed in the United States in 2001. Because many plastic and reconstructive surgical procedures are performed in private professional offices or as outpatient procedures, accurate statistics concerning the number of procedures performed are not available.

Diagnosis/Preparation

General Preparation

Preparation for nonemergency plastic or reconstructive surgery includes individual education, as well as medical considerations. Some operations, such as nose reshaping or the removal of warts, small birthmarks, and tattoos can be done as outpatient procedures under local anesthesia. Most plastic and reconstructive surgery, however, involves a stay in the hospital and general anesthesia.

Medical Preparation

Preparation for plastic surgery includes the surgeon's detailed assessment of the parts of an individual's body that will be involved. Skin grafts require evaluating suitable areas of skin for the right color and texture to match the skin at the graft site. Face lifts and cosmetic surgery in the eye area require very close attention to the texture of the skin and the placement of surgical cuts (incisions).

Persons scheduled for plastic surgery under general anesthesia will be given a physical examination, blood and urine tests, and other tests to make sure that they do not have any previously undetected health problems or blood clotting disorders. The surgeon will check the list of prescription medications that the prospective patient may be taking to make sure that none of them will interfere with normal blood clotting or interact with the anesthetic.

Individuals are asked to avoid using aspirin or medications containing aspirin for a week to two weeks before surgery, because these drugs lengthen the time of blood clotting. Smokers are asked to stop smoking two weeks before surgery because smoking interferes with the healing process. For some types of plastic surgery, individuals may be asked to donate several units of their own blood before the procedure, in case a transfusion is needed during the operation. The prospective patient will be asked to sign a consent form before the operation.

Personal Education

The surgeon will meet with the prospective patient before the operation is scheduled, in order to explain the procedure and to be sure that the individual is realistic about the expected results. This consideration is particularly important for people undergoing cosmetic surgery.

Medical Considerations

Some people should not have plastic surgery because of certain medical risks. These groups include:

  • persons recovering from a heart attack, severe infection (for example, pneumonia), or other serious illnesses
  • people with infectious hepatitis or HIV infections
  • individuals with cancer whose cancer might spread (metastasize)
  • people who are extremely overweight (Individuals who are more than 30% overweight should not have liposuction.)
  • persons with blood clotting disorders

Psychological

Plastic, cosmetic, and reconstructive surgeries have an important psychological dimension because of the high value placed on outward appearance in Western society. Many people who are born with visible deformities or disfigured by accidents later in life develop emotional problems related to social rejection. Other people work in fields such as acting, modeling, media journalism, and even politics, where their employment depends on how they look. Some people have unrealistic expectations of cosmetic surgery and think that it will solve all their life problems. It is important for anyone considering nonemergency plastic or cosmetic surgery to be realistic about its results. One type of psychiatric disorder, called body dysmorphic disorder, is characterized by an excessive preoccupation with imaginary or minor flaws in appearance. Persons with this disorder frequently seek unnecessary plastic surgery.

Aftercare

Medical

Medical aftercare following plastic surgery under general anesthesia includes bringing patients to a recovery room, monitoring their vital signs, and giving medications to relieve pain as necessary. Persons who have had fat removed from the abdomen may be kept in bed for as long as two weeks. Individuals who have had mammoplasties, breast reconstruction, and some types of facial surgery typically remain in the hospital for a week after the operation. Those who have had liposuction or eyelid surgery are usually sent home in a day or two.

People who have had outpatient procedures are usually given antibiotics to prevent infection and are sent home as soon as their vital signs are normal.

Psychological

Some individuals may need follow-up psychotherapy or counseling after plastic or reconstructive surgery. These people typically include children whose schooling and social relationships have been affected by birth defects, as well as persons of any age whose deformities or disfigurements were caused by trauma from accidents, war injuries, or violent crimes.

Risks

The risks associated with plastic, cosmetic, and reconstructive surgery include the postoperative complications that can occur with any surgical operation under anesthesia. These complications include wound infection, internal bleeding, pneumonia, and reactions to the anesthesia.

In addition to these general risks, some plastic, cosmetic, and reconstructive surgical procedures carry specific risks:

  • formation of undesirable scar tissue
  • development of persistent pain, redness, or swelling in the area of the surgery
  • infection inside the body related to inserting a prosthesis (These infections can result from contamination at the time of surgery or from bacteria migrating into the area around the prosthesis at a later time.)
  • anemia or fat embolisms from liposuction
  • rejection of skin grafts or tissue transplants
  • loss of normal feeling or function in the area of the operation (For example, it is not unusual for women who have had mammoplasties to lose sensation in their nipples.)
  • complications resulting from unforeseen technological problems (The best-known example of this problem was the discovery in the mid-1990s that breast implants made with silicone gel could leak into the recipient's body.)

Normal Results

Normal results include an individual's recovery from the surgery with satisfactory results and without complications.

Morbidity and Mortality Rates

Morbidity and mortality rates vary with the complexity and severity of different procedures. Mortality is similar to that associated with all surgical procedures. Morbidity is influenced by personal expectations. From a surgical perspective, most morbidity is due to errors associated with anesthesia, procedure, pain medications, and after care. From an individual's perspective, morbidity involves the degree to which actual results compared to expected outcomes. The latter distinction is very subjective.

Alternatives

Alternatives to plastic, reconstructive, and cosmetic surgical procedures include using various products that may be affixed to articles of clothing or the surface of the body.

therefore.... we should know all the pros and cons of plastic surgery before committing... :P
